Last weekend we finally made it off the dock. This was our first trip since returning home from our Dry Tortugas and Keys trip in July. I had foot surgery in August which kind of kept us land locked for the summer, so we were psyched to finally untie the lines and head out for the weekend.

It was an absolutely gorgeous Florida fall weekend. Temps in the low 80’s during the day, 60’s at night making it very comfortable to sleep with the cabin windows open. Corey’s friend Sam came with us and the two boys had a a great time kayaking, fishing, and skim boarding all weekend. We love New Pass for just that reason, there’s so much for the boys to do all while they are right near us and Randy can check in with them via dinghy from time to time.

While anchored there, near dog beach, Randy spotted some dachshunds on the beach. He immediately realized that we knew the couple and their dogs. We’ve met this couple and their 5 long-haired dachshunds (yes, 5!) on Fort Myers Beach several times last winter. They always joked that Sophie completes their 6-pack. They were back down in Florida and on their pontoon boat with the pups and we just so happened to spot them and took the dinghy ashore with Sophie for a “doggie beach playdate”.

On Sunday, the boys went out on the kayaks for half a day before Randy took them ashore where Corey’s mom picked up both boys to take them home. We pulled up anchor and headed back towards Fort Myers Beach. Not wanting the weekend to end, we decided to anchor near Matanzas Bridge for a night and ding into shore for dinner. The next morning, we pulled anchor and headed back to the marina.
