Blue Turtle Cruising

Weekend in Cape Coral

Last weekend Randy, Corey and I took Blue Turtle to the Cape Coral Yacht Basin. My parents, who are live aboards, have called the Yacht Basin home for the past 4 years until recently. They’ve been planning on doing The Great Loop for the last year and have been outfitting their trawler (Island Time) for the trip. Since we knew they would be leaving the following weekend, we decided to take Blue Turtle there to spend the weekend with them. Friday evening, we had a large group of family and marina friends go out to dinner at Sonny’s Barbecue. On Saturday, Corey and I went to my nephew Jack’s baseball game with my parents. I finally got to watch Jack pitch and he did great. Later that day, Randy’s father and girlfriend, April, came to visit and took us out to eat at Ford’s Garage.

While we were there for the weekend, we also had some work done on the boat. One of our 2 main doors has been leaking since we’ve had the boat. Randy has literally driven himself crazy trying to find the source of the leak and fix it. Finally, we determined the leak was somehow getting through the door jam and the only was to fix it was to remove the door and re-bed it. Yacht Basin resident, Bill C., is a pretty handy guy and we’ve used him several times on boat projects. Bill had to dismantle the door frame and step and remove the refrigerator in order to replace rotten wood (from years of leaking) and re-bed the door. This worked out to be a great plan to have him work on our door while we were visiting with my parents. We are really going to miss them!
