Blue Turtle Cruising

Hanging around Fort Myers Beach

After having the last two weeks off, my holiday vacation time was coming to a close. With this weekend being my last weekend of vacation freedom, we decided to relax around the marina and take in the sites of Fort Myers Beach (FMB).

Saturday started off with a relaxing morning of reading (for me) and small boat projects (for Randy). With no boy (Corey was at his mother’s) we decided to spend the afternoon like FMB tourists. We caught the trolley going north on Estero Blvd. and got off at the “World Famous” Lani Kai. The Lani Kai is a very popular spot for the younger folks on the beach and they happen to have pretty good rum runners as well as a prime piece of beach real estate on the island. We took in a limbo contest and then walked down the beach to the pier and then headed to Top O’Mast Lounge for another rum runner.

After Top O’mast, we went to Yukatan Beach Stand for lunch and a drink. Yukatan has great food and is a fun environment. After our late lunch we caught the trolley and headed toward home base. We got off at Junkanoos which is just 1 mile north of Snook Bight marina for a sunset/happy hour cocktail. Once the sun began to set, we started our walk home on the beach and caught a few photos of the gorgeous sunset. What a fantastic end of a wonderfully fun day.

Sunday, January 6, 2013

Sunday was the best day of all. My parents, sister and nephews visited us at the marina and we went to lunch at Yukatan Beach Stand (yes, again). After lunch, we were visited by Randy’s friend Rob who had a few friends on his boat. After they shoved off, we were told by several folks in the marina that the Indian Princess would be stopping by the marina around 3:30pm to take anyone in the marina who wanted to go out for a ride. Randy and I had missed this opportunity several times now and were thrilled to finally get to go for a ride. The captain of the paddle boat is also a live aboard in the marina so it was really cool to go out with him captaining the vessel and be among our new friends. The cruise was an absolute blast and several folks from our group sang karaoke aboard. After we returned from the cruise, Randy and I grabbed Sophie and headed for the beach for sunset. Unfortunately, there were too many clouds this evening and there wasn’t much of a sunset. We still had fun watching the wiener dog run on the beach and recapped our weekend.
