Stand Up Paddleboarding at Hell Pekney Bay

Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) has been gaining popularity over the last few years. Randy and I own kayaks and we love exploring the backwaters in southwest Florida. I had been wanting to give SUP a try for a couple of years now. Our marina, Snook Bight, has recently started to sell and rent kayaks and paddleboards, so  I decided it was time to give it a whirl.

My neighbor, Joan (of Head Over Keels), and her friends Sonja and Martha accompanied my for my first paddleboarding trip. Once on our boards and comfortable standing up, we paddled across the channel and into Hell Pekney Bay. It was a gorgeous day and we paddled and drifted for about an hour or so before be began our trip back. Our paddle back to Snook Bight was quite a workout since we were paddling against the wind. I really enjoyed paddleboarding and I liked the flexibility of being able to move around on it more than a kayak. I felt like I really got a workout while having a blast. I’m really looking forward to trying it again soon!
