Blue Turtle Cruising

A new roof over our heads

The trawler blog has been quiet the last couple of weeks. We’ve been staying at Cape Coral Yacht Club  for the last two weeks so we could have our canvas and isinglass redone. Blue Turtle’s previous canvas/isinglass had to be roughly 10 years old and in desperate need of attention. When we got her, the isinglass was already cloudy, but we only had one tiny crack in it. By the time we had a chance to have it replaced (1 year later) we had acquired several large cracks in it. Needless to say, it was time.

We initially decided to get a quote through the marina (Snook Bight) knowing they would be high with their extra markup. So, we decided to get a second estimate from the company my parents used for their canvas. Since the estimate from our second source was roughly $3,000 less, we decided it made the most sense to move to Cape Coral Yacht Club for 2 weeks while we had our canvas redone. The company that did our canvas was Jackie’s Custom Upholstery and owner, Tom Seiler, is an expert in this field. Besides having the bridge canvas and isinglass redone, we decided to add on a new bimini over our second level deck (the one over the aft cabin). Tom and his team did an excellent job with the canvas and glass and finished in the promised 2 weeks time. We have been very happy with the new bimini and canvas. If you are in the southwest Florida area and are looking to have your canvas, isinglass or upholstery redone, I highly recommend these guys. 1. I can tell the wiener dog is totally satisfied. Looks good, just in time for those dog day afternoons of summer. I can’t wait to check it sometime.
