Trawler galley Project

Our new cooktop and tiled counters

When we bought the DeFever, it had an old propane stove in it that we immediately knew we’d want to replace. Besides it not being something we would use, it was rusted inside and rattled making a lot of noise. I decided that I wanted to remove it and instead, add a 2-burner electric ceramic cooktop. I would then gain a whole bunch of much needed cabinet space beneath it as well as some added counter top space behind the cooktop. Since we have a convection microwave oven, I can use that to bake, so no bulky over/stove combo was needed.  Once the old stove was removed, we built in the counter area to allow for the drop-in cooktop. After that was done, we tiled the countertops and backsplash to have a modern even surface. At this point, I decided to also replace the old faucet in the galley with a marine grade Shurflo pull out faucet. The project is mostly finished…the only remaining thing to do is have 2 cabinet doors made to cover the new cabinet area where the stove once was. Many, many thanks to Bill (our handy woodworker/electrician/jack of all trades neighbor from Linda C.) and my parents Gina and Steve for their help tiling the counter tops.
