Blue Turtle Cruising

Boat Life

In 2012, Randy and I purchased a 1974 Defever Passagemaker trawler to live aboard on full time. Little did we know at the time that it would completely change our lives forever and make us look at life a little unconventionally from there on. We named her Blue Turtle and lived aboard her for 9 years in Fort Myers Beach. We both worked full-time, raised our son and cruised the gulf waters, Keys and Dry Tortugas any chance we got.

In 2021, we sold the trawler and purchased a 1978 CSY sailboat for our next chapter: early retirement and learning to sail. We named her Blue Turtle as well and we cruised full time for 3 years along the east coast of the U.S. (from Florida to Massachusetts) and the Bahamas.

For almost 13 years, we lived aboard full time. All in—no storage units—meaning we paired down everything we owned to fit aboard our floating home. We made incredible memories, met amazing people (with whom we’re still friends with), and looked at life outside the box.

In early 2025, we sold Blue Turtle (the sailboat) and purchased a Class A RV to live on and cruise full time. We know we will eventually be back on the water, but for now we’re enjoying the land life.

I started this blog in 2012, mostly for myself, family and friends to chronicle our travels and living aboard experience. Content varies from boat projects, living aboard pros and cons, to scuba diving and cruising. This content from our 9 years on a living on a boat is still here.
