For the past couple of years, we’ve celebrated 4th of July at the Cape Coral Yacht Club with my family and friends. This year, since we are now on the beach, Randy wanted to check out the fireworks they set off from the Fort Myers Beach pier. His father, John, and friend April came down to celebrate with us.
It’s been so stormy and rainy lately and July 4th was no exception. We had storm after storm that day but luckily they were short, quick bursts. Finally around 6:00pm, we decided to get the bikes ready and to begin heading down to the pier. It’s about a 3 mile bike ride from the marina to the pier and we took our time riding down the beach. Once we reached the Lani Kai, the sky opened up on us and so we parked our bikes at there and locked them up. We decided to get a rumrunner (of course!) while we waited out the rain storm. Once the storm was over we walked around Times Square in and out of the shops. We had a quick bite to eat at Yucantan Beach Stand and headed over to the pier. With the weather being so awful most of the day, it seemed to keep the crowds on the thin side. We were able to stand right at the pier where they had us roped off and had a spectacular view of the fireworks. Corey said that this was the best fireworks display he had ever seen…and it was grand! We we super-impressed with the show.
Our ride home was uneventful and fun. As we rode down the beach in the dark, you could see fireworks being set off by individuals all along the beach. What an awesome time.
