Blue Turtle Cruising

4th of July in Key West

On Sunday, July 3rd, after Randy’s family departed, we spent the day catching up on laundry and cleaning the boat, after that we went out for drinks and dinner and called it a night.

Monday, July 4th, I decided to check out a new gym just around the corner from the marina, Key West 24 Hour Fitness Center. It’s a very nice, new facility with state-of-the-art equipment and I bought a week’s pass since we would there until the following weekend. After I worked out I met the boys at the taco stand on Duvall street (Amigos Tortilla Bar Mexican Restaurant) for lunch and we returned to the boat to relax before the evening’s festivities.

That evening, we made our way down Duvall toward the southern end of the street where the fireworks takes place. We had dinner at the Southern Most Beach Cafe and then headed to Casa Marina (a Waldorf Astoria Resort) to view the fireworks. The past two years, we just watched the fireworks at the public park nearby. This year we were planning to meet up with Vinny and Bobbie, who we met last year in Key West. We paid the $10 entry fee and got to see the fireworks from this gorgeous resort. The drinks were pricy (what you would expect from a fancy resort) but it was a very nice atmosphere and a great place to view the fireworks. We caught up with Vinny and Bobbie and chatted for a bit before the fireworks, making plans to meet up with them later in the week.

  1. Hi I enjoy the goings on in your life. We have been to Key West as well Stock Island Marathon’s Marathon Marina and Resort: great happy hour at Lazy Days. We live in Mississauga Ontario and keep our trawler Splendido in Fort Lauderdale on the New River during the summer. We are selling our vessel and purchasing 45 footer with a washer dryer.
